Minstead Entrance and pedestrian gates

Our Minstead gates are the name we give to our ‘matchboard design’ gates. They feature a flat top and bottom with tongue and groove panel detailing and can be made as entrance gates or as single pedestrian gates (or both).

As a stock item, the Minstead is made from 70mm x 45mm rebated, PAR timber framework, mortice & tenon jointed. The braces are made from 70mm x 30mm sawn timber. The gate is clad with 80mm x 16mm T.G.V. boards, and is finished with a 75mm x 30mm twice weathered Capping. We strongly advise that on any gate over 1.2M wide, we increase the framework size to 95mm x 45mm at an additional cost of 30%.

As a custom/ made to order item, the gates can be made in either softwood, hardwood or composite, and can be automated as opening or sliding. They can also be treated or painted according to your specifications.

The Minstead gates are named after another local place close to New Forest Fencing, famous locally for wild horses and great coffee spots!!

The Minstead can be made in either left, or right hand hung, so please specify. These gates should not be pressure treated, as they are made from Kiln dried Timber, which is stored dry and assembled in a dry workshop. It is important to realise that when this timber comes in contact with the elements, rain etc. it will take on the moisture and swell. This will be noticeable especially on the Tongue and groove boarding, which may distort the framework and try to force the gate apart at the joints.

For softwood gates, we strongly recommend an oil-based treatment, available in Pale green, Golden or Dark Brown at a square meter price, see our price list page 5 for current prices. We strongly advise the customer to provide at least a further two coats of stain, and to recoat it throughout the life of the product.

For Hardwood “Sapele” gates we strongly recommend a coat of Ronseal woodstain which is applied to all surfaces during the manufacturing process, see our catalogue for current prices. We can apply this in “Antique pine” which brings out the natural Sapele colour or “Teak” which will make a very dark colour. We strongly advise the customer to provide at least a further two coats of stain, and to recoat it throughout the life of the product.
