Discover how NFF delivered a rapid 6-day commercial site clearance and de-risking project for HAV Consult and Southampton City Council.
Client: HAV Consult / Southampton City Council
Project Type: Urban Regeneration, Site De-Risking & Commercial Ground Clearance
Turnaround: 6-Day Rapid Enabling works
Location: Southampton City Centre, Former Toys “R” Us site
Before any commercial construction or housing development can begin, live sites require comprehensive enabling works to eliminate environmental hazards and secure site boundaries.
The former Toys R Us site in Southampton city centre – a landmark location slated for major redevelopment – had fallen into severe disrepair following prolonged vacancy. The immediate site challenges included:
Severe Site Degradation: Accumulated waste, environmental hazards, and unsafe derelict conditions.
Public Safety Risks: Overgrown vegetation blocking a critical urban pedestrian arterial route connecting the local community to Southampton’s train and coach stations.
Security Threats: Cover provided by dense overgrowth made the unmonitored site a focal point for anti-social behavior and trespassing.
HAV Consult and Southampton City Council required a fully accredited commercial contractor capable of rapid mobilisation to execute heavy ground clearance, restore public access, and prepare the footprint for immediate revenue-generating car parking and future construction phases.
This wasn’t a job for the faint-hearted. Our team moved in for a mass six-day clearance and tidy-up operation designed to “de-risk” the site and prepare it for its next chapter.
The process involved:
By removing the “cover” provided by overgrowth and clearing the evidence of neglect, we have significantly reduced the site’s attraction for anti-social behaviour.
What was once a site in disrepair is now a clean, open, and safe environment. Whether it eventually becomes a new residential hub, a commercial space, or a public car park, New Forest Fencing has ensured that the regeneration of this Southampton landmark starts on the right foot.
It might not be our most glamorous project, but it is one of our most necessary.
When preparing a brownfield or urban regeneration site for redevelopment, main contractors need a subcontractor that eliminates compliance risk from day one.
Rapid Mobilisation: Fully equipped ground clearance and fencing teams ready for fast-track enabling packages.
In-House Capability: From initial vegetation clearance and temporary hoarding installation to permanent automated security gates, we handle the entire perimeter package under one roof.
Direct-Employed Vetted Crews: Every ground team member holds CSCS, DBS, and BPSS certifications for safe operation in sensitive urban and public sector spaces.
Tier-1 Pre-Qualification: Fully accredited under ConstructionLine Gold, CHAS Advanced, and Achilles.
Whether you require fast-track enabling works, temporary site hoarding, or a permanent commercial perimeter package, our direct-delivery team is built to support your program.
